My husband and I are IT people. We’ve been working in tech since the late 80s – I worked for IBM and then Microsoft and my husband worked for DEC and then Microsoft. Oddly, we didn’t meet at Microsoft.
Kimberly L. Randal (Kimberly L. Tripp)
Microsoft was great but it wasn’t really the right fit for me. I like doing multiple types of work – not just teaching or just writing. In 1995, I started SQLskills where I could deliver training, consult with clients, write articles / blog posts / book chapters, and present at large technology conferences. I’ve never looked back. I love working for myself and finding the right fit with my customers. And, presenting – it’s both a real pleasure and a passion. Nothing is more fulfilling than watching that “light-bulb moment” when someone understands something.
Paul S. Randal
Paul worked for DEC in Scotland, where he grew up (although he was born in England). When DEC closed its Scottish doors, quite a few former DEC employees moved to Redmond to work for Microsoft. Paul chose SQL Server. He worked for Microsoft from 1999 until 2007 when he left to join me. Together, we run SQLskills.
About Building Camp Savage
We’ve been thinking about what we want to do when we grow up… for a while now. And, largely, we don’t want to grow up! But, most importantly, we want to continue to live and play in Washington. We know it’s not the climate for everyone but the more frequent rains bring us year round green. We absolutely love how lush the landscapes are here and we love that we have the Puget Sound, the Cascades, and even the desert of eastern Washington within an easy drive.
Paul always says – it’s warmer, less wet, and less windy than Scotland – so it’s great for him!
This site will give you insight into why we chose this location. What we looked for in our property. How we worked with the county to purchase it. And, over the coming years our process to make this our forever home and playground!
