The long and winding road… to mow!

Bigger… Better… Faster… MORE!

Sometimes I feel like we have to go big or go home… and, with power tools, that might not be quite the right decision. We have NO meadows; we have a forest. Yes, it was clear cut back in 2014 but it was fully prepped and replanted over the following couple of years. Really, the only thing we need to mow – are our roads. There are many of them and they’re all formerly logging roads. But, they have a grassy center and the sides really start to encroach on the drive if we don’t deal with them. We definitely needed a riding mower but did we need a great big mower deck? Nope, we just need to mow each section individually. And, with the ditches and rocks – I really just need to make sure I don’t lower the deck too far. So, we got a little cub from Home Depot. It definitely wasn’t cheap but the bigger decks and bigger lawn tractors were twice the price. Do I love our little cub – why yes I do. And, I actually LOVE mowing – which I have to do roughly every two weeks. It’s about that time again.

Here are a few of the roads I have to mow. It’s really peaceful. It actually reminds me of when I used to ride a bike (my motorcycle days – I started with a Yamaha Maxim 400 and then bought a beast – an R1200c BMW). I loved riding and the feel of the open air but the large number of rainy days seemed to make my fair-weather riding difficult! And, I eventually sold my bike. The mower reminded me of that… but, A LOT slower. LOL

  1. that’s a lovely shot, captures the essence of the whole place with the long path, and that gorgeous view

    1. Thanks! It’s the lower road and where we hope to put the guest cabin. It’s a really lovely spot and even closer to the river with more up-close views. It’s a smaller area though so not as good for the main house but absolutely perfect for a little cabin. We can’t wait to have more spots to retreat!! (and, have family over as well!!!)

      xoxo
